Training in martial arts, especially our arts; Jeet Kune Do, Kali/ Eskima, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Muay Thai, has many benefits. The most important benefit is and always will be self-defense.
After that the benefits continue to inc;use self confidence, assertiveness, discipline, health and wellness and finally personal evolution.

But some people may want to go into martial arts for competition; you may want to pursue this as a recreational goal or as a potential life opportunity and career.

At Andersons Martial Arts Academy, developing competitors, professional fighters and champions is not our primary goal. Our primary goal is providing the very best education to all of our students and our community. Making sure that every single student is equipped to defend themselves in all ranges of combat. As well as helping our students gain every benefit martial arts has to offer, including; health, wellness, fitness, self confidence, discipline and physical, mental spiritual development.

Perhaps that is why, when some our students do ask to compete, pursue a fighting career they are so successful training at AMAA.

Competition opportunities in our arts include:

  • Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
  • Muay Thai / Kickboxing
  • Brazilian JiuJitsu
  • Kali/ Eskrima tournaments
  • Boxing

Competition Training at AMAA

Combat sports, particularly grappling, are great tools for fighting because one can practice these techniques full force against an unwilling opponent, with only a minimal risk of serious injury. Competition in tournaments allows one to use these techniques in a stressful situation and against a total stranger, in front of friends, family and enemies.

At AMAA we have two sparring classes, that are open to all students, bur we do have our professional fighters and highly experienced instructors help our competitors during those sparring hours.
Keep in mind – the sparring class is for ALL students, and maintains a safe and fun, educational environment.

AMAA competitions goals must also begin with a good and consistent class attendance in the art(s) in which you hope to compete. For MMA that would be both the striking and grappling classes. In weapons that would be Phase 1 and 2/3. In Muay Thai or boxing the Muay Thai classes, and in Brazilian JiujItsu the Jiujitsu classes are a must.

Sifu Anderson will then help you harness those goals by inviting you to the several day and evening competition team training hours.

How Important Is Competition? Why compete?

In the wise words of Helio Gracie; ” If you have a sixteen man tournament and only one man wins, what did the other fifteen men get out of it? I submit that the second most important benefit for training or even simply studying combat sports is what they can teach us about life.”

At Andersons Martial Arts Academy, developing competitors, professional fighters and champions is not our primary goal.
